RAC – Report on Motoring

Marketing Excellence Award finalist

We’re proud to be a finalist in The Chartered Institute of Marketing’s 2010 Marketing Excellence Awards. It’s for our design for the 2010 RAC Report on Motoring – in the Automotive/Transport category.

Motoring organisation RAC has been publishing its Report on Motoring annually since 1988. It is based on the views of 1,150 drivers in Britain and provides a snaphot of motorists’ attitudes towards vehicles, roads, Government transport policy and other drivers. Milestone has designed the report for the last two years and has helped deliver huge PR value for RAC.

The 2010 Report highlights that motorists are more concerned with issues close to home like petrol prices and potholes, rather than the environment and wider topics. It generated an outstanding 10:1 return on investment.

The future for cars?

On Saturday 6 November RAC welcomed over 60 cars to their finish line in Regent Street in the first Brighton to London Rally for electric vehicles. It was a great showcase for new technology, seen by many as the future for cars. At the event was a backdrop of veteran ‘London to Brighton’ cars on display. What’s surprising is that electric cars have been around for a long time. Three of the veteran cars on display were electric – built 107 years ago! So, it’s kind of back to the future.

RAC Drive-in Movies

In August last year RAC ran a series of unique Drive-in Movie events. It was an idea that Milestone proposed to RAC back in December ’09. We worked on the project with other RAC agencies, Hill & Knowlton, Zenith Optimedia, Balloon Dog and Williams Lea to deliver the most amazing brand experience for those lucky enough to get a ticket.

The events in London and Birmingham were experienced by around 10,000 people of which 97% agreed that they’d had a great time.

PR and advertising of the events generated an estimated 5 million impacts and radio promotion with Heart FM created a further 8 million impacts.

It also created a massive buzz on Facebook, doubling the number of RAC Fans to over 2,000 in two weeks. There is a video clip about the events on The RAC Breakdown Facebook page.

Drive-in Movies

“Milestone showed their usual enthusiasm and passion in helping the RAC Drive-in Movies become a real success this summer, with some great photography and logo design.”

Roses Design Award finalist

At Milestone we’re very happy to be a finalist in this year’s Roses Design Awards. We’re in the category of Corporate Publication for our design of RAC’s prestigious Report on Motoring 2009.

The Report on Motoring is an annual publication first launched in 1988 and has become widely regarded as the voice of Britain’s motorists. It’s based on the views of 1,150 drivers in Britain and provides a snapshot of motorists’ attitudes and behaviour with regard to their vehicles, the road network, government transport policy and other drivers.

We’ve worked on the Report for the last two years, giving it a strong visual impact that brings the facts and figures to life. PR results from the Report campaign have been significant, delivering a major return on investment for RAC.

RAC Drive-in Movies

Pull up in your car at a country park venue, grab a gourmet burger, fries, drink, popcorn. Pick up some fantastic RAC freebies while someone cleans your car. Then switch off, sit back and watch a movie. Not bad for £15 a car or even £30 if you’re a non-member.

On Wednesday night a gang from Milestone went to see Grease at Alexandra Palace on the RAC Drive-in Movie staff night. And it was great fun. This series of events is a concept we came up with for RAC back in December ’09. And now it’s happening – delivering the most amazing brand experience for those lucky enough to get a ticket.

It’s a truly integrated marketing campaign featuring events, competitions, radio, PR, social media, web, press and more. If you’ve missed it this year, let’s hope they run it again next summer. It’s worth joining RAC for this alone!
