Strength in numbers…

This week on our blog I thought I’d share a few thoughts on a new buzz word in marketing – the ‘Infographic’. On display is one we created for RAC. It’s a summary of stats from their award winning Report on Motoring done as a ‘Charticle’. Making data come alive like this is right on trend at the moment. It’s not just about pretty pictures either. Cool infographics make great sticky web content, attract Google searches and they encourage the sharing of factoids through social media. What would make a great infographic about your industry, market or product range?

Milestone wins CorpComms Award

Milestone and RAC are celebrating winning Best Corporate Publication in the UK’s leading awards recognising excellence in corporate communications. Our winning entry was for The RAC Report on Motoring 2011. Milestone’s Peter Wilkinson and Paul Napleton from RAC accepted the award from comedian host Alun Cochrane.

Milestone and RAC were celebrating a win at the Corp Comms Awards this week. We won best corporate publication for the RAC Report on Motoring. It was a great team effort from everyone involved that made it an award winning entry this year. Milestone’s Peter Wilkinson and Paul Napleton from RAC accepted the award from comedian host Alun Cochrane.

On Patrol

Yesterday, Milestone was shooting the new RAC Patrol Van at Richard Pinches’ studio in Henley. Expertly modelling the new uniforms was RAC Patrol of the year, Kevin Andrews. Thanks to Richard’s rapid work with the camera, there was just time for some client hospitality at Henley Regatta, that happened to be on just down the road. Anyone for Pimm’s?

RAC Report on Motoring 2011

Launched this week, our design for the 2011 Report is centred around a strong typographic style with bold images and infographics, bringing the statistics to life.

Focus this year is on the rising cost of motoring and the different views of urban and rural drivers. The Report delivers significant PR value as well as establishing RAC as the voice of the British motorist.

Talk the talk…

If a logo, typeface and colour palette for a brand is ‘walking the walk’, then tone of voice is ‘talking the talk’.

We’ve recently created a tone of voice toolkit for motoring organisation RAC. It’s been an interesting project, talking to lots of people from right across their business. We’ve identified the essential nuts and bolts of how they communicate and shown examples for different audiences and media. There’s also a language guide containing a glossary of brand words and phrases and a copywriting checklist.

We’ve tried to keep it simple and free from brand and marketing speak – so people will get it and actually use it. Tone of voice (this is already marketing speak, I know) is an essential part of any brand guidelines. It’s increasingly becoming the best way for organisations to communicate how and why they’re different.

To make it interactive and have a bit of fun we’ve also created an online quiz for colleagues to test their word skills.

Language is sure to be a big thing for many brands who haven’t yet found their voice. But, the challenge will be making sure they don’t all sound the same.
